"Connecting Generations,
Building Stronger Communities"

Our History

Angela Reed is the push behind the vision of Southwest Safe Streets Black Independent Party, Inc. A lifelong resident of Orlando, Florida, Ms. Annette, as she is fondly known in the community, began working with the young teenagers in the Carver Shores Community when her own children were playing Pop Warner Football.

In 1989, seeing the need to bring the families of Carver Shores together and give the talented young members of this West Orlando Community, something positive to do, she organized the Southwest Boys and Girls Gospel Choir. The Choir consisted of young teens from all over the area, but the majority lived in the Carver Shores and Richmond Heights areas. The choir was not just for singing, but these young people were taught the importance of serving their community. Community service activities we have done in the past and continue to do now include:

  • Painting houses belonging to elderly community members

  • Mowing lawns of handicap and elderly individuals

  • Toy drive for children of incarcerated parents

  • Feed the homeless twice a month

  • Fundraisers to assist families with utilities, school clothes, shoes and supplies

  • Food and clothing drives

  • Assist Veterans by connecting them to services within the community and small rehabs on their homes
